HIT ME WITH THE BEST SHOT

Let’s be honest. A little shot doesn’t hurt all that much. But being sick for 10 days, maybe even during school break, now that would really hurt!

We just want kids in Central Florida to be healthy, and we know a flu shot each year is one way to do that. It’s a great habit to start now, because you really need a flu shot every year, forever. That’s how you stay protected.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Well the nurse or doctor injects a teeny bit of vaccine into your muscle. That vaccine tells your body, PRODUCE ANTIBODIES!... so it does.
Then, if you do get infected with the virus called influenza, those antibodies will fight it off. When your antibodies are all built up and ready to fight, the adults call that “Immunized”.

Who needs a shot?
* Small kids – between 6 months and 5-years
* Kids with heart or lung disorders, including asthma
* Kids with chronic diseases such as diabetes, kidney disease, certain kinds of anemia, or immune system problems, including HIV/AIDS

Kids also need the flu shot if they live with someone who could get very sick if they get the flu, like babies or grandmas and grandpas over age 50. Plus, your parents or doctor might still want you to get the flu shot, just to make sure you don’t get all yucky sick with the flu.
